South Korea's Everland expands
South Korea's pre-eminent theme park, Everland Festival World, is undertaking a long-term programme of renovation and expansion, designed to maintain its popularity and business.
Samsung Everland, the park's owner, has selected Forrec to design the first major anchor attraction - a themed adventure play land for children.
Theming for the US$14m addition will be based on familiar children's fables. However, the biggest challenge for the designers is the location; according to project manager, Anthony Van Dam. The entire play land has to be tucked into a 60ft hillside that separates two existing themed zones within the park. 'As much as possible, we're working with the existing topography to reduce the amount of costly cut and fill work,' he said.
When completed in spring 2004, the new play land will feature a character house, an interactive play area and several rides including a family rollercoaster and dry/wet slides.
Forrec is a Canadian design and planning firm now in its fourth decade as a specialist in the design of themed attractions, entertainment and environments. Details: +1 416 696 8686
