Southern Sun Durban opens
A new spa has opened on the ninth floor of the Suncoast Hotel and Towers in Durban, South Africa.
Covering 8,288sq ft (770sqm), the spa has seven treatment rooms, including five single rooms with private showers and two dual suites. Each room boasts panoramic views of the beach and Indian Ocean.
Babor and Phytomer products will be used for facial and body therapies. There is also a nail salon and a relaxation room.
All staff have been trained and certified either by ITEC (the International Therapy Examination Council) or SAAHSP (the South African Association of Health and Skincare Professionals), in line with South African law.
The signature massage, called The Sea Whisperer, has been developed by Susan Stein, of Bali-based Jari Menari Spa Consulting International.
More than an hour long, the therapy is influenced by philosophies of flow and connection and is further inspired by the Esalen Long-Stroke massage. Stein was also responsible for co-ordinating therapist training during the spa’s pre-opening period.
The hotel is owned by the Southern Sun Hotels group.
