Spa-ing in the treetops
Mustapha's Place hotel and bar on the east coast of Zanzibar has launched a mini-spa with a difference.
The Casuarina Spa is located high above the hotel among the casuarina pines and palm trees of the hotel's garden. Adapted from what was previously an upstairs area in a guest bedroom, the repurposed space features a new staircase and window and is very intimate, covering a total of only 64.5sq ft (6sq m).
With one treatment room and one massage bed, spa furniture was made by local Zanzibari carpenters. Treatments include aromatherapy massages, body scrubs and Indian yoga massage.
There are now plans to add flooring to another roofed space of 215sq ft (20sq m) to make it suitable for yoga and pilates. Details: www.mustaphasplace.com
