Special guests make Aquaterra's youth night a roaring success
Aquaterra was delighted and honoured to welcome special guests Catherine West, Leader of Islington Council, Det Chief Supt and Police Borough Commander Gerry Campbell, and MP for Islington North Jeremy Corbyn, to an action-packed Saturday Night Project® at Sobell Leisure Centre on Saturday 30 March.
Weininger Irwin, the UK's first Gladiator Champion, was compere for the evening and encouraged everyone to try something new as well as all their regular favourite activities. 267 teens enjoyed badminton, ice skating, a roller disco, football and many tried their hand at freestyle trampolining!
Cllr West said: "We're on the side of young people and committed to making sure they have fun and positive things to do. From basketball to dancing, the Saturday Night Project offers a huge range of activities for young people – there's something for everyone."
A number of Ultimate Frisbee players provided demonstrations and come and try sessions for the young attendees which were a particular favourite on the night along with the Sobell Basketball Club who hosted drills, competitions, wheelchair basketball and games.
Damien Swan, Manager at Sobell Leisure Centre said: "It's fantastic to see so many young people from the local area through the doors on a Saturday night. The atmosphere is always brilliant, a real buzz."
The Saturday Night Project® was established to create more activities in the borough for 13 -19 year olds at weekends. The success of this high profile project is exceeding all expectations as it continues to engage with young people in a positive and inspiring way.
Borough Commander, Gerry Campbell, tweeted about his experience at the Saturday Night Project® praising the safety of the event and encouraging others to help support the project.
