Sport England cuts funding to RFL; EGP
Sport England has confirmed that it has cut the amount of funding that it will make available to the Rugby Football League (RFL) and the England Golf Partnership (EGP).
The agency's board has taken the decision following the latest Active People Survey findings, which uncovered "disappointing participation figures" for the respective sports. A reduction of more than £956,000 and a renegotiated participation goal has been accepted by the RFL, while the EGP has been handed a £107,000 cut and new participation targets.
Sport England chief executive Jennie Price said: "The decisions announced today follow lengthy discussions with each of the governing bodies." "[The RFL] has recognised the need to change the approach to grassroots delivery if genuine growth in regular, sustained participation is to be achieved.
"[The EGP] has done good work in bringing children into the game, and has now committed to bringing the same focus to its work with the adult game." Last month, Sport England announced that the Rugby Football Union would receive a £1.1m funding cut as a result of declining participation.
