Sport England launches new planning tool
Sport England has unveiled a new tool, aimed at local authorities and town planners, to help increase participation in sport and physical activity through the design and layout of urban developments.
Active Design is an online tool which builds on the information acquired by Sport England in the development of its Active Power website – the most comprehensive online directory of sport and leisure facilities – which was launched earlier this month.
Sport England commissioned David Lock Associates to investigate the contribution that master planning can make to creating environments that are condusive to physical activity and active leisure.
The second phase of research, due for publication next spring, will involve work with the industry to produce more detailed design guidance and develop a user guide to use the principles of Active Design to greater effect.
