Sportech announces interest in Tote
Ian Penrose, chief executive of gaming group Sportech has declared the company’s interest in taking over Tote, the state-owned bookmaker.
Reporting Sportech’s full-year results for 2007, Penrose said: “I can confirm that we have lodged an interest in a potential transaction to acquire UK Tote.
“We believe that it could represent an opportunity to combine the pool betting activities on the two biggest sports in the world, British football and horseracing.”
The announcement came as Sportech, which operates the Littlewood football pools, revealed pre-tax profits of £11.6m, a 27 per cent increase on 2006.
