Sportech looks for interactive expansion
Gaming operator Sportech is expecting to report profits of around £9m, in line with expectations, when it announces its full-year results on 31 March.
In a pre-close statement the company, which owns the Littlewoods gaming and pools brands, said it had managed to cut losses at its betting division by concentrating on casino, poker and telephone betting. It also announced its intention to develop its interactive gaming services.
Sportech’s betting partnership with digital channel ITVi, launched in March 2004, attracted 25,000 customer registrations during the year and the company plans to expand the service by launching a number of new interactive gaming products in March.
Roger Withers, managing director, said: “We are looking to increase our share in the interactive gaming market.”
“The strong growth in gross win and customer numbers across our internet and Sky based betting offer demonstrates what we can achieve in this new market. This confidence is reinforced by our strong relationship with ITV.”
Regarding its soft gaming division, the company announced it will scrap its scratchcard operations by the end of the first half of 2005, as it again returned operating losses of around £0.6m.
