Sports facilities report published for Edinburgh
Edinburgh City Council has published a report setting out the financial and sporting impacts of redeveloping two landmark sporting venues in the city.
The report concludes that a £37.1m investment is required to take forward plans to refurbish the Royal Commonwealth Pool.
It also outlines plans to sell land around the Meadowbank Stadium to fund an estimated £10.5m shortfall in the pool project, as well as a phased development of new facilities at Meadowbank.
Jim Inch, director of corporate services at Edinburgh City Council, said: “Our recommendations are based on the general support for the redevelopment of the Royal Commonwealth pool and on support for the continued provision of sports facilities at Meadowbank.
“The sale of valuable land would deliver the pool project and also provide some funds to initiate a phased approach to the delivery of improved facilities at Meadowbank.”
