Sports projects chosen for National Lottery awards
Ten sport initiatives have been shortlisted for a public vote in the Best Sport Project category of The National Lottery Awards 2011.
The annual awards have been set up to celebrate the UK's favourite Lottery-funded projects and recognise the difference that these organisations - both big and small - make to local communities.
The 10 projects on the list are:
· Calderdale Council Midnight League, Yorkshire · Chase Trails Cycle Project, West Midlands
· Connecting Communities Project, Leeds · Active Newcastle
· Bluebird Care Hampshire Disability Cricket Programme · New Opportunities in Sport and Exercise for Looked-after Children, Northumberland
· Sailing for Blind People, North West · Scottish Women's Active Pathways (SWAP) Project, Scotland
· Sharks Special Olympics Swimming Club, London · Southwest Regional Talent Centre, Bath
Voting opened yesterday (31 May) and ends at midday on 20 June. The three projects in each category with the highest number of votes will go through to the final round of public voting later this summer.
