Stage set for Theatre Museum redesign
Haworth Tompkins, winner of the Young Architect of the Year and Outstanding Young UK Architects awards in 2001, have been appointed to redesign the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden.
Housed in the original flower market, the Theatre Museum is a branch of the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) and is home to one of the most complete collections of English stage, including the Redgrave family archives, set designs and millions of theatrical photographs.
Haworth Tompkins has been commissioned to redesign the museum's interior to allow more natural light and create a more flexible exhibition space and will unveil its designs early next year. The museum will make a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund next year to help fund the development, which is expected to cost between £8m and £10m. Details: +44 (0)20 7943 4740
