Stanhope acquires London's BBC Television Centre in £200m deal
Leisure uses are being planned as part of an extensive redevelopment of the BBC Television Centre site in London, which has been acquired by Stanhope in a £200m deal.
Mitsui Fudosan and the Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) are funding partners of Stanhope in the deal, which follows a year-long process led by the broadcaster.
Stanhope's bid was one of six shortlisted and measured against three main objectives - such as maximising velue for the Licence Fee payer and ensuring a legacy for the iconic building.
Although the BBC will retain a presence at the site, the developer has netted a long leasehold interest and has chosen Allford Hall Monaghan Morris to draw up mixed-use plans.
Stanhope chief executive David Camp said: "We are looking forward to working with the BBC to deliver a vibrant, mixed-use scheme for the Television Centre site.
"We will preserve and enhance the much loved iconic buildings surrounding the forecourt for workspace, hotel and residential uses."
