Starwood acquires Design Hotels interest
US-based hospitality group Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide is to purchase a 49.8 per cent interest in its Germany-based counterpart, Design Hotels AG.
Design Hotels AG is a provider of distribution, sales, marketing and consulting services for the hotels industry and has more than 200 member properties across 40 countries.
Starwood said the chance to acquire the stake in Design Hotels came through a relationship with Arabella Hospitality, which recently divested its shares in the Berlin-based group.
Design Hotels chief executive officer Claus Sendlinger said: "Having Starwood as an investor is a further validation that Design Hotels is a strong brand of global relevance.
"Furthermore, Starwood has a keen appreciation for what makes Design Hotels distinct and special, the creative spirit of our visionary hoteliers."
It is not expected that Starwood will be involved in Design Hotels' day-to-day operations, while Design Hotels will not take part in Starwood delivery systems.
