Stockton theatre revamp consultant chosen
David Wilmore of North Yorkshire-based historic theatre consulting firm Theatresearch has been appointed to work on a £4m restoration of the Globe Theatre in Stockton-on-Tees.
Jomast Developments is working alongside Stockton Borough Council on plans to overhaul the venue, which is a Grade II-listed Art Deco building first opened in 1935.
Once the restoration project is complete, the Globe Theatre will offer a main auditorium with a capacity of around 675 seats or 1,700 standing and 808 balcony seats.
Facilities will also include bars in the auditorium and on the first floor; dressing rooms and other back-of-house facilities; and a VIP area second box office in an adjacent property.
Wilmore said: "The reopening of this building will re-invigorate Stockton during the day and create an exciting and visual impact to the streetscape at night."
