Stockton theatre revamp plans revealed
Plans for the £4m redevelopment of the historic Globe Theatre in Stockton-on-Tees have been announced by Jomast Developments.
The developer is working in partnership with Stockton Borough Council (SBC) to revamp the venue, which forms part of efforts to overhaul the northern end of the High Street. When complete, the restored Globe Theatre will provide a main auditorium with a capacity of around 675 seats or 1,700 standing and 808 balcony seats.
Facilities will also include bars in the auditorium and on the first floor; dressing rooms and other back-of-house facilities; and a VIP area second box office in an adjacent property. A specialist management company is to be established by Jomast to operate the refurbished Globe Theatre, which will host live music, comedy and other entertainment events.
SBC cabinet member for regeneration and development Bob Cook said: "Its return as a performance venue will boost the growth of the whole town centre by developing the evening economy and creating jobs."
