Surrey CCC reports £502,000 pre-tax loss
Surrey County Cricket Club (SCCC) has become the latest county cricket club to report a deficit in the last financial year, after posting a £502,000 pre-tax loss for 2010.
The club said turnover fell by £5m to £20.5m, compared with 2009, while the Wednesday start of last summer's Test between England and Pakistan affected hospitality sales. Ticket sales for Friends Provident Twenty20 matches were also affected by last summer's Football World Cup, although SCCC said it had experienced a strong start to 2011.
SCCC chair Richard Thompson said: "For the India Test and ODI, we are tracking above an Ashes series which is unheard of. "2010 was a difficult year across cricket in general, and all sports suffered a downturn in corporate hospitality. We are beginning to see the market improve."
