Swansea watersports venue work to start
Swansea Council has revealed that construction work is to get underway on a £1.4m scheme to establish Swansea Bay as a new Centre of Excellence for watersports.
OPCO Construction has been chosen to deliver a new building to include changing facilities; a multi-purpose space; and an area to store specialist watersports equipment.
Kite-surfing, kite-buggying and stand-up paddle boarding are among the activities proposed for the venue, with lifesaving courses also earmarked to take place at the centre.
Meanwhile, an existing property at Knab Rock will be replaced with a purpose-built facility offering showering facilities; changing rooms; and a tourism information service.
Swansea Council cabinet member for culture, recreation and tourism Graham Thomas said: "Most people would agree that Swansea's best asset is our spectacular bay and seaside scenery.
"But we need to maximise its potential and these schemes will help Swansea continue to build on its reputation as an outstanding location for watersports and tourism."
