SwellSpa taps AI to deliver nature-based sound therapy for spa treatment rooms

Sound wellness company Swell, founded by DJ Brian d’Souza, launches SwellSpa app for spas and hotels
The app uses sound therapy, generative AI technology, biophilic nature sounds and binaural frequencies to create unique sound experiences to accompany spa treatments
A study by Kinda Studios and Goldsmiths University confirms SwellSpa's soundscapes can improve relaxation, lower heart rate and boost Alpha brainwave activity
SwellSpa recommends incorporating its sound experiences to elevate the spa customer journey in treatment rooms, relaxation areas or experience bed spaces

Sound wellness company Swell has launched AI-generated music solutions for spas and hotels, scientifically proven to improve wellbeing.

Founded by international DJ Brian d’Souza, Swell's new SwellSpa app delivers soundscapes designed to help guests achieve deep relaxation, experience emotional uplift, improve sleep, or foster a closer connection to nature.

The compositions blend sound therapy, biophilic sounds from nature and binaural frequencies using generative AI technology. This ensures different sound experiences on each listen, making every treatment unique.

SwellSpa’s sound experiences transport listeners to beautiful locations worldwide, including forest or coastal settings in The Outer Hebrides, Ibiza, Nepal, Japan, Switzerland, Cape Verde and India.

According to a study by the neuroaesthetics lab Kinda Studios and Goldsmiths University, SwellSpa’s soundscapes deliver a range of health benefits, including deep relaxation, cognitive insight, emotional uplift and increased happiness.

The study demonstrated that after just 15 minutes of use, SwellSpa’s soundscapes significantly improve relaxation, lower heart rate and increase Alpha brainwave activity, which enhances creativity and openness.

“For too long, the sound played in spa treatment rooms has been overlooked, characterised by generic, mindless playlists that sit purely as a background experience,” says d’Souza.

“SwellSpa changes that by placing the power of sound therapy in the hands of the spa and potentially even spa customers. We've spent three years developing the next-generation technology that delivers 'Journeys not Genres': purposeful, end-to-end sound experiences that can be perfectly choreographed to each treatment.

“SwellSpa is designed to be super simple and cost-effective – scientifically-proven to deliver immediate results and we can't wait to share it with the spa industry.”

SwellSpa recommends incorporating its sound experiences into treatment rooms via an iPad, creating personal listening stations in spa relaxation rooms, or enhancing existing experience bed journeys with sound therapy.

The new app enables therapists to choreograph their treatments to the music by tailoring the duration of each sound experience.

Clients will be assisted with ongoing workshops, training, onboarding and continual support.

Existing partners

Swell has already collaborated with Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel in Glasgow, Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel in Edinburgh, Serenity Spa at Seaham Hall and Scottish spa and skincare brand Ishga on sound wellness projects.
