Sydney Aquarium to open animal park
The Sydney Aquarium in Darling Harbour has announced plans to open 'Australia's Animal World', a park of equivalent size to the aquarium.
The park will have 44 exhibits including a butterfly house and aviary. As well as indigenous animals like kangaroos, koalas and wombats, the park will also be home to insects and reptiles.
The attraction will cover approx. 7000 square metres and will be all-weather, with visitors able to enjoy animals in the open air enclosures and under covered walkways.
The project is expected to cost $29 million dollars and will be managed by the aquarium's existing CEO, John Burgess.
Burgess refuses to comment further on plans for the park which will open in 2004, other than to confirm that the project will go ahead.
