THFC seeks to kick-start stadium scheme
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (THFC) has submitted a bid for public sector support to help kick-start the stalled Northumberland Development Project (NDP) in North London.
The Premier League club had previously stated that the multi-million pound development - including a new 56,250-seat stadium and designed by KSS - was financially unviable. However, THFC has now submitted an application for Round Two of the Regional Growth Fund in a bid to push forward the NDP and help regenerate North Tottenham.
THFC chair Daniel Levy said: "[The NDP] would directly create thousands of new, private sector jobs, attract millions of pounds of additional expenditure in the local economy and lever further private sector investment into the area." The proposals have already cleared the necessary planning hurdles and will also feature a new heritage square, a hotel and improved public spaces.
Last November, however, the club criticised the lack of public funding support available for the scheme and had eyed a move to the Olympic Stadium.
