The Restaurant Group (TRG) has continued to trade in line with expectations, with like-for-like sales currently 3 per cent down on the same period last year and total turnover up 4 per cent.

Announcing its trading update for the 46 weeks to 15 November, TRG reported that it had opened 17 new restaurants so far this year, with another 15 to 20 new openings expected next year. Looking ahead to 2010, TRG expects trading conditions to remain tough for the sector, with tax rises, fuel price increases and the threat of higher unemployment all potentially impacting on consumer spending. However, it believes its strong brands and value-for-money offer will allow it to continue trading profitably.

The Restaurant Group operates around 365 restaurants and pub restaurants, mainly in leisure locations and airports. Its primary brands are Frankie and Benny's, Chiquito, Garfunkel's, Blubeckers and Brunning & Price.
