TV subtitles - an update
Last week's e-zine informed members that one unforeseen consequence for hotels of the switch to digital television was that, without additional adjustment, either all TVs are left with subtitling functioning or none of them do.
If the latter, as previously explained there are Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) implications for the hard of hearing. The RNID, VisitEngland and the Equality and Human Rights Commission have put out an information note, available by clicking here.
The note points out that a reasonable adjustment which the DDA requires could be ensuring subtitles are available on bedroom TVs, but you are entitled to take cost into account. The first step is to talk to the installer who is or will be switching you to digital TV to discuss different options.
