Talks continue about Universal Studios in Malaysia
Rumours about a Universal Studios theme park being built in Malaysia continue as the Tourism Minister for Malaysia arrives in Singapore for meetings with the Singapore Tourism Board.
Mr Datuk Paduka Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir is in the country to discuss Singapore having a stake in the S$4bn Universal Studios theme park in Johor Bahru.
If the park goes ahead, the three stakeholders are expected to be Renong Berhad, a Malaysian government-linked company, a Singapore government-linked company and Universal Studios.
However, a time frame has not yet been drawn up for the proposed theme park and the investors are yet to sign on the dotted line.
According to the Singapore Straits Times, a Singapore Tourism Board spokesperson has said:
'If a theme park of Universal Studios' calibre is established in close vicinity to Singapore, it will obviously be beneficial to us. Singapore will be a gateway for the region to get to such a theme park and people living here will also have easy reach.'
