Taubman galleries to open in November
Officials at the Art Museum of Western Virginia have announced that the attraction’s new building will be completed during the summer and that the new facility will open to the public in November 2008.
The gallery is expected to shortly begin the process of moving its collections to the new USS66m (£34m, 43m euro) facility, which according to a spokesperson is “90 per cent complete”.
Following the move, the attraction will also change its name to The Taubman Museum of Art, after U.S. Ambassador to Romania Nicholas F. Taubman and Mrs. Eugenia L. Taubman.
The renaming of the gallery is in recognition of the couple’s lead gift of $15.25m (9.9m euro, £7.8m) to support the museum. The donation is the single largest gift towards the build of the new facility.
