Taxing time for Wimbledon FC
The future of Wimbledon Football Club – recently relegated from Division One – looks increasingly dark following a legal action from Inland Revenue (IR).
IR has challenged a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA), accepted by 95 per cent of the club’s creditors, as unfair and has filed its official objection against it at the High Court. As a result, the proposed transfer of the club’s ownership to a Milton Keynes-based consortium, InterMK, led by music producer, Peter Winkelman, has now fallen through at the last minute.
After being in administration for nearly a year, Wimbledon could now face insolvency -– a move that would expel it from the football league.
The club issued a statement, in which it said: “Regrettably, the IR has filed an objection against the club’s CVA at the eleventh hour. Obviously, the IR’s decision to pursue this course of action causes additional concern and we will make further statements as matters progress.”
