Telford ice rink proposals move forward
Telford and Wrekin Council (TWC) has approved plans for the refurbishment and upgrade of the Shropshire town's ice rink as part of the wider £250m Southwater development.
A new restaurant and bar and soft play facilities form part of the proposals, in addition to an energy centre that will be built to deliver sustainable heat for other elements of Southwater.
Work will begin at the ice rink towards the end of May and will be completed by the end of the year. It is expected the facility will remain a key part of the Southwater development.
Meanwhile, a number of major restaurant operators have signed up the regeneration scheme and will join Cineworld, which is already confirmed as the operator of a new cinema.
Chains including Bella Italia, Harvester and Pizza Express are expected to open in Telford in 2013. A hotel run by Premier Inn is also among the leisure element of the Southwater project.
