Our approach is inherently prehabilitative

Ten Health and Fitness has opened its ninth studio in an office building in central London, with the aim of helping people with sedentary jobs become more healthier.

The 400sq ft boutique studio at the multi-tenanted office property is a departure from the traditional Ten model and will offer physiotherapy, massage, one-to-one pilates sessions, personal training, rehabilitation and clinical exercise.

With the aim of catering for staff working in the building, Ten will also offer workplace assessments and rooftop classes during the summer months.

The opening is part of a partnership with the building's owner, developers Derwent London.

“When we talked to the team at Derwent London about this idea, it was clear that they could see the advantages of our way of thinking, and that they were as willing to try something new as we were,” said Ten Health and Fitness' brand and property director Justin Rogers.

Ten founder and owner, Joanne Mathews, added that the studio will also offer an approach called MoveBetter, designed to alleviate the detrimental impact caused by prolonged sitting has on office workers' posture and movement patterns.

“Our approach is inherently 'prehabilitative',” Mathews said.

“We describe MoveBetter as the workout for the way we live now. It’s highly effective, and with significantly reduced injury risk, a more sustainable approach to living.

"Because it’s so immersive, and mindful, and requires so much focus and precision, a session is also a great stress-buster – a time-out from day-to-day pressures.”

The opening comes shortly after Ten revealed. plans to double the size of its business over the next three years, having secured a £4m growth capital investment from Foresight Group.

Founded by managing director Joanne Matthews in 2007, Ten claims to be the only London boutique provider to bridge the gap between fitness and the medical sector.
