The O2 will open in July 2007 as planned
Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) has confirmed that the 350,000sq ft (32,500sq m) mixed-use O2 site – formerly known as the Millenium Dome – in London will open in July 2007 as planned.
Newly announced leisure facilties at The O2 include an 11-screen multiplex cinema, an ice rink called the O2 Ice Pad, a 1,800-seat theatre and a 350-bedroom hotel with a spa and a gym.
The 60,000sq ft (5,600sq m) bubble-shaped exhibition arena will host a Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition from November 2007.
The 2,200 capacity live music venue’s line-up of five acts for the second half of 2007 will be announced shortly.
The O2 will also host the 2009 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships and the 2012 London Olympics’ gymnastics and basketball final events.
It is speculated that Cirque du Soleil will host regular shows. Details: www.theo2.co.uk
