EuropeActive has appointed Kai Troll as its new CEO. He has a background in the trade association sector and a strong interest in sport and physical activity.

His appointment follows the announcement in May 2023 by executive director, Andreas Paulsen that he would be stepping down in 2024. Paulsen has since agreed to remain in a consultancy role with EuropeActive.

Troll will take up his position in April 2024.

The EuropeActive board said Troll’s leadership style – marked by humility and adaptability – makes him the ideal candidate to lead the organisation into a new era.

An experienced CEO, Troll has worked across various sectors, including sport, associations, NGOs, health, entertainment and philanthropy.

A management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group earlier in his career, Troll was president and CEO of Best Buddies EMEA and director at the Special Olympics in Europe and Eurasia, he also co-founded the Geneva, Brussels, Washington and Irish International Association Forums, giving him high-level insight into the workings of the EU and other political arenas.

He has also been involved with the International Sport and Cultural Association (ISCA) and is a member of the UN Sport, Development and Peace Platform, an active associate of the UN SDG and a member of the Clinton Global Initiative Health Matters track.

Troll said, "This role presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of people across Europe. I look forward to working with all stakeholders to advance our mission and make a lasting impact in the health and fitness sector through continuing to unite the fantastic community that has been built at EuropeActive.

David Stalker, president of EuropeActive, said, "Kai's vast experience and proven track record in leadership roles across various sectors make him an invaluable asset to EuropeActive. We’re confident that under his stewardship, EuropeActive will achieve new heights in promoting health and fitness across Europe. His presence in Brussels ensures EuropeActive will have the leadership it needs to effectively represent and advance the interests of the health and fitness sector in Europe, particularly with European institutions.

“This strategic appointment underscores the organisation's commitment to its mission of getting more people, more active, more often, and stimulating the value of physical activity in society,” said Stalker.
