Three hurt in 'explosion' at The Pods
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) has confirmed that oxygen therapy had been administered to three men, following an incident at The Pods leisure centre in Scunthorpe.
According to HFRS, an explosion occurred in the venue's chlorine treatment plant due to a build-up of pressure that led to the release of chlorine gas from the swimming pool area. North Lincolnshire Council has now commenced work on a clear up operation at the venue, with specialist cleaners due to begin yesterday (21 June).
Earlier this month, the council received the keys to the multi-million pound centre from contractor Bowmer and Kirkland ahead of its planned July opening. Designed by Andrew Wright with S&P Architects acting as the project's delivery architects, the complex will comprise an 85-station gym; a double pool; and a six-court sports hall when open.
