On Thursday 12th July 2012, The White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre, in South Oxfordshire, proudly celebrated 10 years of sport and exercise with special guest, Tennis legend Tim Henman.

The Centre, managed by Active Nation on behalf of White Horse District Council, held a special day of free events to mark the occasion, of which the star attraction was a Tennis exhibition, master class and Q&A session with former British Number One, Tim Henman.

Since the £10.3 million centre was opened by the Duchess of Gloucester in 2002, the centre has boasted more than 8.2 million visits.

Cllr Elaine Ware, cabinet member for Economy, Leisure and Property at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: "Since opening in 2002 the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre has made a massive contribution to both Abingdon and the wider Vale community. The staff and facilities here have really led the way in assisting and encouraging people to increase their fitness and live a healthy and active lifestyle.

"The first ten years has been an incredibly successful period with vast numbers using the centre, including a few well known names and some impressive up and coming young athletes. We now aim to build on this success by continuing to provide a first class leisure service for our residents for many years to come."

Dave Rolls, Contract Manager for Active Nation said "The 10 year celebration event has been remarkable. The support from the local community and our partners Vale of White Horse District Council have helped to make this centre a truly special place that the district can be proud of. The centre continues to go from strength to strength, being able to affect the health and activity rates of more supporters each year."
