Tiscover wins contract to power EU tourism web site
Destination management system provider, Tiscover, and its partners have won the contract to power VisitEurope.com, the EU's new tourism web site.
The agreement will see Tiscover, together with Austrian partner Electronic Commerce Competence Centre (EC3), developing the site into a marketing tool for all 32 EU member states. The contract – worth about two million euros – was awarded following a tendering process involving 40 companies.
Due to go live in 2005/6, www.visiteurope.com will enable tourists to check destinations, attractions and events as well as to book accommodation.
VisitEurope.com is operated by the European Travel Commission (ETC), the umbrella organisation for the EU's national tourist boards. The national tourist boards of the individual member states will handle the various country sites.
