Tourism plan to 'recognise' TV show success
The Vale of Glamorgan Council (VGC) has agreed to "recognise the marketing potential" of the successful BBC TV sitcom, Gavin and Stacey, as part of its draft tourism strategy.
Members of the council's cabinet backed the insertion of a new paragraph into the document, which states: "The series has put Barry Island and wider Barry firmly on the national map and we must take full advantage of this unique opportunity." Plans for the development of a new museum and heritage centre in Barry could also come to fruition after the scheme was included in the draft strategy, which aims to increase the number of visitors to the area.
Other measures include efforts to increase cycling in the Vale of Glamorgan, with a report revealing that it was the only local authority area in south east Wales not covered by the national cycle network.
