Tourists welcomed to Britain with Jubilee initiative
The British tourism industry, which recently launched its international tv advertising campaign (LO 28 May), has introduced a range of initiatives to welcome overseas visitors to the UK.
The first elements of the campaign are a specially designed display stand, heritage map and welcome posters - all decorated in the Golden Jubilee colours of purple and gold - which will be installed by BAA in all terminals at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports since 27 May.
The map details royal venues and events, while a fortnightly events bulletin from the Golden Jubilee office, with an introduction by Prince Charles, will also be available.
A series of three welcome posters will greet visitors on arrival at ports, airports and in Tourist Information Centres (TIC).
Following the Jubilee celebrations in June, the English Tourism Council will produce a welcome pack for distribution in airports, hotels and TICs.
The English Tourism Council's 'Only in Britain. Only in 2002' campaign aims to bring an extra 1m visitors to Britain this Golden Jubilee year. Details: www.visitbritain.com
