UK gears up for Sport Relief
The nationwide Sport Relief campaign will reach is climax this weekend (14-16 March), as thousands of members of the public will take part in events across the UK.
There will be more than 200 one mile charity runs taking place on Sunday 16 March, including 23 major Flagship Miles held at the largest cities.
The event is held every two years and attracts a host of celebrities and sports personalities to take part, in an attempt to encourage the public to participate in the fundraising.
As part of the weekend, BBC will be running a number of TV programmes from the events. The last Sport Relief, held in 2006, raised more than £18m.
Initiatives which benefit from the Sport Relief include schemes such as Street League, which supports young people living deprived lives. Street League enables youngsters to participate in a structured sport and education programme to overcome the problems they face and find full-time employment, education and training.
