US attempts to block online gambling
US legislators are hoping to pass the Leach bill, which would make it an offence for offshore online gaming sites to accept the use of credit cards, cheques or electronic fund transfers.
The bill was passed by the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services this month, but it is yet to be passed by the full House before being voted on in the Senate.
A similar bill advocating a complete ban on online gambling is also pending.
The bills are the result of a coalition of Representatives who are opposed to gambling. A decision is expected on both bills this Spring. Details: www.house.gov
