US warns over possible hotel attacks in Nigeria
The US Mission in Nigeria has warned that hotels in the capital city Abuja could be targeted by a radical Islamic group, following recent terror attacks in Brono and Yobe State.
In an emergency message to all US citizens in Abuja, the US Embassy said it had information regarding Boko Haram's plans to attack a number of locations and hotels in the city.
The Nicon Luxury; the Sheraton Hotel; and the Transcorp Hilton Hotel were among those to be named as potential targets, with all US government personnel instructed to avoid the sites.
A spokesperson for the US Mission in Nigeria said: "American citizens should expect additional police and military checkpoints, additional security, and possible road blocks in Abuja for the foreseeable future.
"The U.S. government has no additional information regarding the timing of the possible attacks."
