UW agrees to lease Dylan Thomas Centre
The University of Wales (UW) has agreed to lease Swansea's Dylan Thomas Centre from the local authority in a deal that aims to secure the future of the Maritime Quarter attraction.
A partnership between Swansea Council and the institution will see an exhibition dedicated to the Welsh poet remain at the site, while the centre will also retain its current name. The facility will also become home to the University of Wales Dylan Thomas Prize as part of the agreement, which is subject to the completion of legal details now under discussion.
Swansea Council leader Chris Holley said: "These are difficult economic times when finances are tight but this deal will save the taxpayer more than £300,000 a year, while securing the future of the Dylan Thomas Centre."
