Union Hanover plans 220-bedroom boutique hotel for London's Stratford City
Hotel developer Union Hanover has revealed plans to create a 220-room hotel in Stratford City London's International Quarter, based around the design principles of New York’s meatpacking district.
Union had originally intended to create a hotel development at the east London site in partnership with Starboard Hotels, but has now bought its partner out to hasten progress of the new development.
The developer plans to operate the new £70m (US$120m, €88.1m) Penny Brook Hotel – near to the site of the London Olympics – under its NOHO hospitality brand.
As well as its 220 bedrooms, the hotel is to feature a rooftop bar and a restaurant that runs over two levels. Other features include 15,000sq ft (1,393sq m) of events space and the chance for people to engage with a pop-up food market at the site.
“This a hugely exciting opportunity for us. We believe that we can create a New York-inspired boutique hotel that will inject a real buzz into Stratford which has unrivalled access to the City, West End and Canary Wharf,” said Hanover’s managing director Eric Jafari.
“We are in talks with a number of high-end restaurant operators and have a number of creative initiatives which will ensure this will offer a unique hospitality experience.”
Hanover and its funding partner EquityBridge Asset Management recently agreed on a development partnership with Aparthotels Adagio, which will now operate two of its hotels in the capital.
