Universal files lawsuit over I-Walk project
Universal City Studios (UCS) has started legal action against Merlin Entertainments Group, Unicorp USA and Circle Entertainment over the proposed I-Walk scheme in Florida, US.
The lawsuit - filed with the US District Court in Orlando on 29 April - has claimed that the I-Walk name is "confusingly similar" to the CityWalk rights held by UCS. UCS has submitted its legal bid on four counts, including trademark infringement and argues that visitors could wrongly think that I-Walk is affiliated with its Orlando resort.
I-Walk is scheduled to open in 2013 on the city's International Drive and will boast a 425ft (129.5m)-high Orlando Wheel attraction and two other Merlin attractions. Merlin are working with Unicorp and Circle Entertainment on the proposals, which will also feature a mixed-use development comprising retail, restaurant and entertainment facilities.
