Universal releases storyline details of upcoming King Kong attraction
Skull Island: Reign of Kong, which opens this summer at Universal Orlando Resort's Islands of Adventure, will be one of the longest ride experiences ever created by the theme park mega-brand, with an intricate storyline to boot.
Releasing details of the guest journey and the first ever image of the ride, the park promised a “multi-dimensional experience” on the mysterious Skull Island. The “incredibly immersive” 3D attraction will feature innovative technologies and huge surprises, Universal Orlando said in a press statement.
The experience starts with the guest setting out to explore an exotic island where menacing creatures and the legendary King Kong are said to roam. Guests set out from the campsite of the 8th Wonder Expedition Company, the research team leading the expedition, past ancient ruins, beating drums and temples and past a lost shrine – where there’s proof that the guests are not alone on the island.
Guests board an expedition vehicle to head deeper into the jungle, reaching an enormous temple wall, covered in carvings and iconography.
As the huge wooden doors of the temple open, guests are thrown into a labyrinth of caves where they struggle to escape the attacks of ferocious creatures – and then an “even more enormous, earth-pounding presence” as King Kong enters the scene.
The King Kong attraction marks the oversized ape’s return to Universal for the first time since 2002, when Kongfrontation was replaced with Revenge of the Mummy.
