University acquires Lincoln marina future
The University of Lincoln has completed the acquisition of a 1.3-acre (0.5-hectare) area of land alongside the city's Brayford Pool, which includes a marina.
Plans are now set to be drawn-up for the sensitive redevelopment of the site, which will see the marina building renovated as staff accommodation and office space associated with 100 moorings. John Plumridge, the university's director of estates and commercial facilities, said: "We will be considering long term options for the site and these will all involve retaining and improving the boat moorings, which we see as a very important asset for the city, culturally and in terms of the Brayford's appeal to visitors.
"We have no intention of developing the site for high rise flats and multi-storey car parking. Instead we will be seeking a use of the land that is sympathetic to the city, makes the most of the surroundings and has been subject to wide consultation with local people."
