Urbium announces strong December performance
Urbium, owner of the Tiger Tiger bar chain, has reported a strong trading statement for the festive period.
In the five-weeks to 31 December, the group’s like for like sales were up 4 per cent and record operating results achieved.
During the period, Urbium’s best-performing sites were in London, with its original Tiger Tiger site in Haymarket achieving record sales.
Managing director, Robert Cohen, said: “We are delighted with this result which has been achieved in continuing tough market conditions.
“Our best December performances were in London reflecting the buoyant demand throughout the month and a strong performance on New Year’s Eve.”
Chair, John Conlan, added: “With the peak December sales now secured, we are pleased with the steady progress made during the second half of 2003.
“The strong recovery in London’s West End in the second half of 2003 illustrated the enduring potential of this huge market where the majority of Urbium’s businesses are located.”
Future developments for the group will include establishing smaller capacity Tiger Tigers, with the first site due to open in Aberdeen in June 2004.
There are also plans to open an 850-capacity site called Abacus in London, which will join its existing Digress bar in the City area when it opens next month. Details: www.urbium.com
