The Mary Rose Museum at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard has welcomed more than 52,000 visitors since opening its doors on 31 May this year.

The new museum, led by Wilkinson Eyre Architects (architect) and Pringle Brandon Perkins+Will (architects for the interior) was built around the hull of the ship.

The boat-shaped museum showcases 19,000 artefacts associated with it. Artefacts on display include wooden eating bowls, leather shoes, musical instruments, longbows, two tonne guns and nit combs.

In the last month, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard has hosted 80,000 national and international guests visiting the HMS Victory, The National Museum of the Royal Navy, Action Stations, HMS Warrior 1860 and addition to the family – The Mary Rose.

Chief Executive of The Mary Rose Trust, John Lippiett said: “The reaction and feedback since the opening has been tremendous, with numbers of visitors exceeding our expectations.

“To see their reaction to what we have achieved is wonderful and is a great credit to everyone's hardwork in building this remarkable museum”.
