Volunteers help the elderly
A community fitness project run by student volunteers from Sheffield Hallam University has scooped a national award at the Higher Education Active Community Fund (HEACF) awards.
One of 36 projects at Hallam Volunteering, Fit Club has been helping elderly residents living in sheltered accommodation in Sheffield to stay active and increase their strength and mobility.
The volunteers, who are sport and physiotherapy students, tailor exercises for each resident at Guildford Grange Home, including those in wheelchairs. The programme also has a strong social focus.
The HEACF judges described the scheme as “a valuable project that has generated interest for further ventures of a simialr nature.”
