Von Däniken banks on the attraction of mysteries
Sci-fi author, Eric von Däniken's latest vision is to come true with the opening of Mystery Park in Interläken, Switzerland, on 24 May.
It is hoped the new all-weather attraction will attract 500,000 visitors annually. Von Däniken's fascination for the world's greatest mysteries is the inspiration behind the 70,000sq m project. The attraction resembles a giant space station, the centrepiece of which is a 41-metre high, globe-like tower, housing the Eric von Däniken Foundation and offering views of the mountainous surroundings.
Pathways radiate out from a central hub - complete with visitor amenities, restaurants and a Fun Zone - to seven themed pavilions and a circular glass walkway that connects the structures. These take visitors on a tour of the unexplained, from the Pyramids of Giza to the Nazca lines in Peru and even Stonehenge. Architectural reconstructions blend with landscaping and multimedia technologies to create the attraction experience. Dwell time is put at 5-6 hours for visitors. Mystery Park is backed by numerous institutions, companies and private investors with sponsoring partners including Coca-Cola, Feldschlössen, SevenOne Media, Sennheiser, Bleuel, SBB, Swatch and Sony.
Investors have bought shares in Mystery Park AG, augmenting capital resources to CHF51m. A further CHF35m of the overall cost of CHF86m has been raised by the issue of convertible bonds. Details: www.mysterypark.ch
