WSF launches website to boost participation
The Women’s Sports Foundation has launched a a new website – www.whatworksforwomen.org.uk – to help identify some of the main issues and barriers preventing women from participating in sport and active recreation.
The website, which is run by the WSF and was funded by Sport England, identifies 18 primary barriers, including child care, body consciousness and activity stereotyping.
The website includes a bank of case studies and examples of best practice, so sports deliverers can search for current, working examples of how they can overcome such problems.
Users can also search for schemes that have been organised by particular bodies – local authorities or schools for example.
Each scheme is explained with its objectives, pathways, successes, funding mechanisms and problem areas identified.
Kate Laydon, chief executive of the WSF, said: “We are very excited by the development of the website. It demonstrates some of the excellent work that is being carried out. We want to see good practice becoming common practice and hope that others can benefit from this insight.”
The WSF is welcoming more contributions from the sporting community – case studies can be added online at www.whatworksforwomen.org.uk
