Wales' National Museum of Art to open
Wales' new £6.5m National Museum of Art is to open its doors to the public tomorrow (9 July), incorporating the country's collection of works at the National Museum Cardiff.
The attraction will see the Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales' mix of works go on show in a single series of integrated galleries for the first time in the institution's history. Six new contemporary art galleries will be housed in The West Wing - the largest area of its kind in Wales, having only had one gallery on offer before.
Nearly 800sq m (8,611sq ft) of additional space will exhibit art produced in Wales since the 1950s, with the opening display to feature works by Shani Rhys James and Josef Herman. David Anderson, director general of Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales, said: "For the first time, the nation has galleries of an international standard that tell the unique story of Welsh art and how the country had evolved.
"Our mission is to inspire the creativity of future generations; these galleries are a vital part of that strategy."
