Walsall Council approves New Art Gallery recommendations
Walsall Council has agreed a number of recommendations for the town's New Art Gallery (NAG), which will result in the attraction reopening on Sundays from 30 September.
The gallery had been forced to close to the public on Sundays and Mondays due to funding pressures, but the decision has now been reversed in an attempt to increase audiences.
Other recommendations approved by the council include the possibility of applying to stage the 2015 Turner Prize and the strengthening of existing links with community groups.
It is thought the cost of reopening on Sundays between October 2012 and March 2013 will cost £15,000, which will be met from within the NAG's existing budgets.
A successful bid for the Turner Prize is estimated to cost £200,000. However, officers said the event "would generate substantially more" for the Walsall economy.
