Wave House Zaragoza to open in 2011
Wave House International, the US-based operator of urban surfing venues, has unveiled plans to open its first European site at the Puerto Venecia retail and leisure complex in Zaragoza, Spain, in 2011.
The Wave House Zaragoza will be a split indoor/outdoor facility at the heart of the leisure section of the 206,000sq m (2.2 million sq ft) development, including a FlowBarrel, restaurants, kava bars and a concert stage for live music and events. Tom Lochtefeld, Wave House founder, said; "The beach is the number one vacation destination in the world, and Wave House creates the beach lifestyle anywhere. Puerto Venecia is more than your standard shopping mall; it is a lifestyle centre, rich in personal experience, and offering its visitors phenomenal entertainment and even sport."
A cinema, a bowling alley and landscaped parks also form part of the project's leisure element, which will be centred around a 10,000sq m (107,639sq ft) canal and lake to complement the retail and fashion mall developments. L35 Architects is behind plans for the 1bn euro (£863.6m) Puerto Venecia development, which is to be delivered by the Eurofund Investments Zaragoza joint venture, including developer British Land.
